This Maui Privacy Policy explains how Speechify, Inc. collects, uses, discloses and otherwise processes personal data when you visit usemaui.ai, join the Maui waitlist, create or use a Maui account, use a Maui application, contact us, or interact with a Maui agent, cloud browser, connected service, schedule, automation or related feature (together, “Maui”).
Maui is an AI service that can work with information from your chats, files, websites and connected accounts and can take actions on your instructions. This means Maui may process both your personal data and personal data about other people. Please read this Policy together with the Maui Terms of Service and any notice shown when you connect a service, enable a feature or make a purchase.
In summary:
- Maui is a standalone Speechify service with its own account and data. Deleting another Speechify account does not delete a Maui account.
- Maui uses AI, cloud-browser, infrastructure, analytics and connected-service providers. Depending on the task, prompts, responses, files, page content, screenshots and tool data may be sent to those providers.
- Speechify may use Maui content and service data to operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve Maui and to develop and train AI models and other Speechify products, subject to the exceptions in Section 8, including for Google user data and data covered by a business agreement.
- Disconnecting an integration stops future access through that connection, but does not automatically delete information already imported into Maui, memories derived from it, browser sessions, logs or provider records.
- Deleting an item from view may not delete every underlying copy. You can delete your Maui account in its settings on the web. To exercise another privacy right, contact legal@speechify.com.
1 Who is responsible for your personal data
Speechify, Inc., 382 NE 191st St PMB 69469, Miami, Florida 33179-3899, USA (“Speechify,” “we,” “us” or “our”) is the controller of personal data processed for Maui accounts, billing, service operation, safety, security, analytics, communications and product improvement, except where a different role is described below.
If an organization has entered into a written data processing addendum with Speechify that expressly covers Maui, Speechify may act as that organization’s processor for personal data submitted to Maui on the organization’s behalf. The organization remains responsible for its own notices, instructions and legal basis. In the absence of such an agreement, this Policy describes Speechify’s standard processing as controller.
Questions and privacy requests may be sent to legal@speechify.com. Product-support questions may be sent to support@usemaui.ai.
2 Scope and relationship to other Speechify services
This Policy applies to Maui. It does not replace the privacy policy for Speechify Reader, Speechify Studio or another Speechify service. Maui currently uses a separate account system, database and billing environment. A Reader login does not automatically sign you into Maui, and a request to delete a Reader or other Speechify account does not automatically reach Maui.
If you move information from another Speechify service into Maui, or a Speechify service gives you access to Maui, this Policy applies to Maui’s processing of that information. The privacy notice for the originating service continues to apply to its own copy.
Third-party websites, merchants, applications and connected services have their own privacy practices. This Policy does not govern their independent processing, even when Maui helps you interact with them.
3 Definitions
Account means the individual account through which you access Maui.
Agent means an AI-based Maui agent that responds to instructions, uses tools or performs tasks.
Connected Service means a third-party account, application, website, tool server, API, data source or service that you connect to, access through or instruct Maui to use.
Personal Data means information that identifies, relates to, describes or can reasonably be linked to an identified or identifiable person. It includes “personal information” and similar terms used in applicable privacy law.
User Content has the meaning given in the Maui Terms of Service and includes prompts, messages, files, recordings, Connected Service content and website content that you submit or authorize Maui to access, together with outputs generated through Maui.
Capitalized terms not defined in this Policy have the meanings given in the Maui Terms of Service.
4 Personal data we collect
Waitlist and pre-launch information
If you join a waitlist, request access or express interest in Maui, we may collect your name, email address, telephone number or messaging contact, preferred communication channel, business name, team size, revenue range, the work you want to automate and the type of Agent you want. We also collect the date, source and status of the request and communications about it.
Account profile and authentication
When you create or use an Account, we collect your email address, name, sign-in method and identifiers received from the identity provider you choose. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we may receive your name, email address, profile image and authentication identifiers in accordance with your settings at that provider. We collect session, browser, device, IP address, security and authentication information. You may also provide a preferred name, occupation, time zone, profile information, Agent name, instructions, rules and preferences.
Chats, files and outputs
We process the messages, prompts, questions, instructions and feedback you provide; Agent replies and generated outputs; files, images, audio, video and other attachments; document text and metadata; tool calls and results; code and commands; citations; conversation summaries; internal task notes; and technical information needed to continue or recover a task.
User Content may include confidential, commercially sensitive or regulated information and personal data about you or other people. Maui does not automatically distinguish personal data belonging to the Account holder from personal data about customers, employees, contacts, recipients or other third parties.
Connected Services and imported information
When you connect or use a Connected Service, we collect the information needed to establish and maintain the connection, such as access tokens, permissions, account identifiers and connection status. Maui may then access information within the scope you authorize and the task requires. Depending on the service, this may include:
- email messages, drafts, recipients, attachments and mailbox metadata;
- calendar events, attendees, invitations and availability;
- cloud files, folders, document content, links, sharing settings and metadata;
- messages, channels, workspace information and member data;
- store, marketplace, advertising, customer, sales, support or analytics account data;
- contacts, professional profiles, employment information, business and personal contact details returned by search or enrichment services; and
- data returned by an API, custom tool or model-context-protocol server that you add or authorize.
Maui may copy relevant Connected Service information into a chat, file, summary, memory, action record, log or output. If you instruct Maui to create a share link or publish information, the resulting link or content may be accessible outside Maui according to the Connected Service’s settings.
Cloud browser, website and credential information
Maui’s browser runs in a remote cloud environment. When Maui opens or uses a website, we may process the URL, page text, page structure, images, screenshots, forms, cookies, local storage, session data, downloads, uploads and actions taken on the page. The live browser may be viewable by you while it operates.
If you take over the browser to sign in, enter payment details or complete authentication, the remote browser provider can technically process the information displayed or entered in that session. Maui may also send masked screenshots, page text, task instructions and action context to AI providers so the Agent can understand and operate the page. Masking and site-recognition controls reduce risk but may not identify or remove every password, payment detail, health detail or other sensitive item.
If you choose to keep a website signed in, Maui may store cookies and session information in the remote browser. Credentials saved through a designated credential flow are stored separately in encrypted form. Do not place passwords, full payment-card numbers or authentication codes in an ordinary chat, file, prompt or Agent rule.
Memory, inferences and action records
Maui may create and retain memories, summaries and inferences from chats, Connected Service content and tool results so an Agent can personalize later work. These may include business information such as goals, prices, deadlines and decisions, recurring tasks, and information about people relevant to your work. Maui uses information in your chats, files and connected services to complete the tasks you request. It is designed not to automatically save sensitive personal information, or inferences about sensitive characteristics, about identifiable people into long-term memory. Maui also creates plans, task state, safety and approval classifications, activity records, browser-action records and information about whether a task appeared to start, pause, fail or finish.
Memory is currently created automatically. A memory removed from the active interface may remain in version history and related records. Maui does not currently create a shared cross-user memory database.
Maui does not currently provide a single user control to view, correct, disable or permanently delete all memories and their version history. Available controls may remove a memory from active use without erasing every underlying version or related record.
Usage, device, analytics and logs
We collect information about how Maui is used, including pages and features used, clicks, task and Agent identifiers, timestamps, browser and device information, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, app version, session information, errors, latency, model and tool usage, token and Credit consumption, cost information, safety decisions, approvals, feedback and support events.
Product analytics events generally record the length of prompts, replies and tool arguments rather than their text. Text you type is included when you choose to report a response, and some events may include names given to skills or scheduled tasks, page addresses (which may include search terms) and error messages. Operational logging records API request bodies and analytics events and may therefore contain chat content, prompts, replies, tool information, errors and other User Content. We attempt to redact fields commonly labeled as passwords, tokens, cookies or usernames, but logs may still contain personal or sensitive information when it appears in other fields or in free text.
The Maui web application may use session replay to reproduce how pages were used. Replay is configured to mask text and input fields and to block images, but masking may not be perfect. We do not use session replay on the public marketing site unless stated in the cookie notice.
Billing, purchase and Credit information
When you purchase a Maui subscription or Credits, we collect or receive your Account and billing identifiers, plan, price, currency, purchase date, renewal status, entitlements, Credit balance and transaction status. Payment-card details for those Maui purchases are collected directly by the payment processor or app store and are not stored in Maui’s application database. We may receive limited payment-method information, such as card brand and last four digits, where provided by the processor. This does not apply to payment information you enter into a third-party website through Maui’s remote browser. That information may be processed by the website and the remote-browser provider as described under “Cloud browser, website and credential information.”
Support, communications and legal requests
We collect the contents and metadata of emails, support requests, feedback, complaints, privacy requests and other communications, together with information needed to authenticate the requester, investigate the issue and document our response.
Push notifications and dictation
If you enable push notifications, we process a device token, notification settings and the notification content. A notification may include an Agent name and a short excerpt of a result, question or error. Depending on your device settings, this information may appear on a locked screen. If you use voice dictation, audio and related metadata may be sent to Speechify’s voice-typing service for transcription.
Phone calls
If you ask Maui to make or answer a phone call, we process the number to be called, the purpose of the call, the name and callback number you provide for Maui to state on calls, and the instructions you give. Before a call, we may check the type of line for the number, for example mobile or landline, through our telephone carrier or a similar service. During the call we process the audio of the conversation, including the voices and statements of the people Maui speaks with, and, when recording is on, we create and keep a recording and a transcript of the call. If a person asks not to be called again, we may keep a record of that request to prevent further calls. Calls are placed through Speechify’s calling service and its telephone carrier.
5 Sources of personal data
We collect personal data:
- directly from you, including through the waitlist, Account, chats, files, browser takeover, purchases, support and privacy requests;
- automatically from your browser, device and use of Maui;
- from sign-in, billing, analytics, infrastructure and communications providers;
- from Connected Services and websites you authorize Maui to access;
- from people-search, enrichment, public-web and other data sources an Agent uses at your instruction;
- from other users or organizations that provide information about you to Maui, and from people Maui speaks with on phone calls you request; and
- from inferences and summaries generated from the information above.
6 How we use personal data
We use personal data to:
- create, authenticate, administer and secure Accounts;
- receive and manage waitlist and access requests;
- provide chats, Agents, files, memory, browser sessions, Connected Services, Schedules, Automations and other requested functions;
- send your instructions, context and content to AI, search, browser, tool and infrastructure providers and return their results;
- carry out actions you request or permit, including reading, creating, sending, publishing, changing, deleting or purchasing through third-party services;
- maintain context across a task or future tasks, personalize Agent behavior and create memories, summaries and inferences;
- process subscriptions, Credits, payments, renewals, cancellations, refunds and taxes;
- send service, security, approval, task, billing and support communications and, with any consent required by law, marketing communications;
- monitor performance, investigate failures, prevent abuse, detect fraud, enforce permissions and improve safety;
- analyze use, debug and improve Maui, including its interfaces, routing, prompts, tools, models, classifications and features, and develop, train, evaluate and improve AI models and other Speechify products and services, as described in Section 8;
- protect Speechify, users, third parties and the public, enforce our agreements and establish, exercise or defend legal claims;
- comply with legal obligations and valid legal process; and
- create aggregated or de-identified information that no longer reasonably identifies a person.
Speechify does not currently use Maui Personal Data for third-party targeted advertising. In the 12 months before the “Last updated” date of this Policy, Speechify has not sold or shared Maui Personal Data, as “sell” and “share” are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act.
7 Legal bases for processing
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on the following:
- Contract. We process data necessary to create and administer your Account, provide Maui and its requested functions, operate connected tools, process purchases and respond to support requests.
- Consent. We rely on consent for non-essential cookies or similar technologies where required, optional marketing, and other processing where we specifically ask for consent. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing.
- Legitimate interests. We process data where necessary for interests such as securing Maui, preventing fraud and abuse, troubleshooting, measuring performance, supporting users, improving Maui, developing and training AI models and other Speechify products, administering our business and protecting legal rights, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.
- Legal obligations and claims. We process data to comply with tax, accounting, consumer, privacy, sanctions, law-enforcement and other legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
- Vital interests. In limited circumstances, we may process data where necessary to protect the vital interests of you or another person.
For special categories of personal data, we rely on your explicit consent, on the data having been manifestly made public by the person it concerns, or on the processing being necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Maui is not designed for emergency, clinical, financial-transfer or other regulated processing unless Speechify expressly supports that use under separate terms and controls.
8 AI models, automated processing and product improvement
Model and tool routing
Maui may select and combine models and tools based on the task, availability, performance, safety and cost. Current providers may include Anthropic for the principal chat model; OpenAI for browser operation and other model tasks; Google Vertex AI, including Gemini models, for supporting model tasks and conversation compaction; xAI for optional model tasks; and fal.ai for media generation or processing. The specific provider may change without a separate choice each time, and users do not currently have a setting to require or exclude a particular provider or processing region.
Depending on the task, a provider may receive prompts, prior chat content, summaries, files, page text, screenshots, tool descriptions, action context, outputs and technical identifiers. OpenAI browser requests may be stored by the provider for service operation and safety. Maui does not currently send a zero-retention, no-training or regional-processing instruction in every provider request. Provider retention and use are also governed by Speechify’s arrangements with the provider and applicable law.
Training and improvement
Speechify may use User Content and service data, including prompts, replies, files, tool information, feedback, action records and memories, to provide, secure, troubleshoot, evaluate and improve Maui, and to develop, train, fine-tune, evaluate and improve AI models, including generative models, and other products and services of Speechify and its affiliates. This may include improving instructions and routing, testing features and measuring quality and safety. It may also include review, labeling and evaluation of content by authorized Speechify personnel and contractors bound by confidentiality obligations, but never of Google user data or of other content excluded from training below.
We do not use the following to train AI models: (a) Google user data, or content from any other Connected Service whose terms prohibit its use for model training; (b) content covered by a signed Order, data processing addendum or other written agreement that excludes training; (c) passwords, authentication secrets and other credentials; and (d) content you submitted while an earlier version of this Policy stated that Speechify would not use it for training, unless you agree.
Where applicable law gives you the right to object to this use, including in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, where we rely on legitimate interests, you may object by contacting legal@speechify.com, and we will exclude your content from training from then on.
Service providers process data on Speechify’s behalf or to provide the service. We do not authorize them to use Maui Personal Data for their own advertising. Whether an AI provider may retain or use data for abuse monitoring or model improvement depends on the applicable account, contract and settings. We do not make a blanket “zero retention” or “never used for training” promise for provider processing unless a written Order or data processing addendum expressly provides one, except for Google user data, which is governed by Section 10.
Automated decisions and human review
Maui uses automated systems to classify risk, decide whether to request approval, select models and tools, detect misuse, generate memories and take or recommend actions. These systems may hold, refuse or permit an action and may make mistakes. Speechify does not use Maui to make a solely automated decision about your eligibility for employment, credit, housing, insurance, healthcare or another service that produces a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
If you believe an automated safety, access or enforcement decision was incorrect, contact support@usemaui.ai. Where applicable law provides a right to human review, explanation or challenge, you may also contact legal@speechify.com.
9 How we disclose personal data
We disclose Personal Data only as described in this Policy, at your direction, or as otherwise permitted by law.
AI model and media providers
We disclose task content and context to providers that generate, classify, summarize, transcribe or transform information. These currently may include Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Vertex AI, xAI and fal.ai. The data disclosed depends on the selected model and feature.
Browser, compute and workflow providers
Kernel may process remote-browser sessions, website content, screenshots, cookies, credentials entered in the remote browser and browser actions. Vercel hosts the Maui web application, marketing site and administrative tools, and may process page requests, cookies and IP addresses; it also provides Maui’s cloud-computing workspace and may process workspace files, commands and snapshots. Temporal Cloud may process workflow state and task payloads used to coordinate background work. ConvertAPI may process files submitted for format conversion.
Connected-service and integration providers
Composio helps connect and operate third-party services and may store connection tokens and process tool inputs and outputs. We also disclose data directly to Google Workspace, Slack, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, Etsy and other Connected Services you choose. If you add a custom model-context-protocol server or other tool, that provider receives the information the tool call sends. Speechify does not control a provider you independently select or configure.
Search, enrichment and Speechify services
Maui may use public-web search, Crustdata or similar services to find business, professional and contact information at your instruction. Maui may use Speechify-operated services for phone calls, web page retrieval and research, voice typing, notifications, identity, account erasure routing or other supporting functions. Speechify’s calling service places calls you request through its telephone carrier and keeps call audio, recordings and transcripts. Speechify’s page-retrieval service may pass the web addresses Maui fetches, and the content extracted from them, to Firecrawl for retrieval, and may process that content with a document-extraction model that Speechify runs on Baseten’s hosting service. Data sent from Maui to another Speechify service remains subject to access controls and the applicable Speechify privacy notice or internal processing rules.
Infrastructure, analytics, identity, communications and billing
Google Cloud hosts Maui databases, files, cache and logs. WorkOS provides authentication. Cloudflare provides domain name services, content delivery, encryption in transit and access control for the Maui web application and marketing site, and relays analytics traffic. PostHog provides product analytics, feature flags, error tracking and web session replay. Firebase Cloud Messaging and the Apple Push Notification service deliver mobile push notifications. Orb supports the Credit ledger and usage billing. RevenueCat supports checkout, subscriptions and entitlements and may route payments to Stripe or an app store. Resend and other communications tools send service emails. Google Sheets and Slack may be used internally to route waitlist and operational information.
Professional advisers, legal disclosures and business transfers
We may disclose data to auditors, insurers, lawyers and other professional advisers subject to appropriate duties. We may disclose data if reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process; protect rights, safety and security; investigate fraud or misuse; or establish, exercise or defend legal claims. If Speechify is involved in a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy or sale of assets, data may be disclosed as part of that transaction subject to applicable law and appropriate confidentiality protections.
10 Google user data
If you connect Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar or another Google service, Maui accesses Google user data only within the permissions you authorize and as needed to provide or improve the user-facing feature you request, maintain and secure that feature, troubleshoot it, or comply with law. Depending on your instructions, Maui may read, summarize, create, edit, send, move, share or delete Google content.
Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data for targeted advertising, sell it, or use it, or allow any third party to use it, to develop, improve or train generalized or non-personalized AI or machine-learning models. We transfer Google user data to AI and other service providers only as necessary to provide or improve the user-facing features you use, for security purposes, or to comply with law, and only under terms that prohibit those providers from using it to train their own models. The statements in Section 8 about provider retention and training do not apply to Google user data.
Speechify personnel will not view Google user data unless you have given your affirmative agreement for us to view the specific messages, files or other data; viewing it is necessary for security purposes, including investigating a bug or abuse; viewing it is necessary to comply with applicable law; or the data, including any derivations of it, has been aggregated and is used for internal operations. Disconnecting Google stops future access through that connection but does not automatically remove copies already present in Maui chats, files, memories, browser sessions, logs or backups. You may also revoke Maui through your Google Account settings.
11 Cookies, analytics and similar technologies
Maui uses cookies, local storage, software development kits and similar technologies for authentication, security, preferences, analytics and service performance. Strictly necessary technologies support sign-in, session continuity, fraud prevention and functions you request. Non-essential analytics may measure use, errors and feature performance. Web session replay may help reproduce a product issue and understand how an interface is used.
Where applicable law requires consent, Maui will not activate non-essential analytics or replay until you make a choice. You can change that choice through the cookie control made available in Maui. Blocking necessary technologies may prevent Maui from working. Browser settings may also permit you to delete or block cookies, but they may not control mobile SDKs or information already collected.
Maui recognizes browser “Do Not Track” signals by preventing the PostHog web analytics software from loading when the signal is detected. Where required by applicable law, we also treat a valid Global Privacy Control signal as a request to opt out of sale or sharing and other covered processing. Maui does not currently sell Personal Data or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
12 Personal data about other people
You may give Maui access to information about customers, employees, applicants, vendors, contacts, recipients, website users and other people. You are responsible for having authority and a lawful basis to provide that information and for giving any notice, obtaining any consent and honoring any right required by law. Do not use Maui to collect or infer sensitive information about another person where the collection or use would be unlawful or unfair.
If Maui receives information about you from another user, you may contact legal@speechify.com to exercise a privacy right. We may need information identifying the relevant user, Account, message, file or Connected Service. We may be unable to disclose or delete data where doing so would adversely affect another person’s rights, reveal confidential information, conflict with the instructions of a controller for which Speechify acts as processor, or be prohibited by law.
13 Retention
We retain Personal Data for the shortest period reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, taking account of the Account’s status, the type and sensitivity of the data, the duration of a task or connection, user choices, security and fraud risks, legal and contractual requirements, limitation periods and whether deletion is technically feasible. The principal retention periods and criteria currently include:
- Account, profile, Agent, chat, memory and core file data are generally retained while the Account remains active and until they are deleted or no longer needed for the service, subject to the limitations described in Section 14.
- Temporary uploads are generally scheduled for deletion after about one day; live-stream cache data after about one hour; extracted-document cache data after about seven days; and some signed access links expire after one or seven days.
- Files moved to a Library trash area may remain recoverable for up to 30 days. A deleted cloud-storage object may remain recoverable through provider versioning or soft deletion for about seven days.
- The latest cloud workspace snapshot associated with a chat may persist to support later work until the related chat, Account or snapshot is deleted under the applicable process.
- Standard cloud application logs are generally retained for about 30 days. Certain required audit logs may be retained for about 400 days. Logs held for security, fraud, incident response or legal claims may be retained longer where necessary.
- An AI provider may retain a request or response for its service operation and safety period. For example, stored browser responses may be retained by OpenAI for approximately 30 days. Other provider periods depend on Speechify’s arrangements and the provider’s service.
- Phone call recordings and transcripts are kept in your Account until you delete them or your Account, and call summaries remain in the related chat. Deleting a recording or transcript removes it from your Account, but a copy of the transcript may remain with Maui’s record of the call until your Account is deleted. Speechify’s calling service also keeps a copy of call audio and transcripts, which may be retained after those items or your Account are deleted for as long as reasonably necessary to operate and secure the calling service and to meet legal obligations.
- Billing, tax and transaction records are retained for the periods required by financial, tax, accounting, consumer and anti-fraud laws.
- Waitlist, support, privacy-request and legal records are retained until the request is resolved and for a reasonable period afterward to document the response, manage access and protect legal rights.
Aggregated or de-identified information that no longer reasonably identifies a person may be retained for longer. Backups and provider-held copies are removed on their normal cycles unless preservation is required for security, legal or contractual reasons.
14 Deletion, disconnection and export
Deleting visible items
A control labeled delete, remove or retire may remove an item from the active interface without erasing every underlying record. In particular, deleting a chat may hide it while messages, summaries, screenshots, memories, action records or logs remain; deleting a memory may leave prior versions; and deleting or retiring an Agent may not immediately remove its chats or related records. A short undo window or a Library trash period may also apply.
Data already sent to a Connected Service, recipient, merchant, website or other third party is controlled by that recipient. Deleting it in Maui does not recall an email, reverse a purchase, remove a public link or require the third party to delete its own copy.
Disconnecting a service
Disconnecting a Connected Service stops future access through that connection after the disconnection takes effect. It does not automatically delete content already imported into Maui, derived memories, analytics, logs, saved browser cookies or provider records. For some services, you must also revoke Maui in the provider’s own settings. Removing an integration does not necessarily close a browser session or stop a task already running.
Account deletion and privacy requests
You can delete your Maui Account from its settings in Maui on the web. Your access to the Account ends as soon as you confirm, and we complete the deletion of ordinary Account data within 30 days, subject to the exceptions described below, including where information must be preserved for an existing or reasonably anticipated legal claim, investigation, regulatory matter or security incident. We email the address associated with the Account once the deletion is complete. Maui does not currently provide a self-service data-export control. If you cannot sign in, or to request a copy of your data or exercise another privacy right, email legal@speechify.com from the address associated with the Account. We will verify and route the request and respond within the period required by applicable law.
Account deletion is intended to remove or de-identify core Maui Account, database, file and remote-browser information, subject to legal and operational exceptions. A request may not automatically remove information from PostHog analytics, cloud logs, workflow records, billing systems, waitlist records, provider systems or backups. We will take reasonable steps to delete or restrict those records where required by law and technically possible, and otherwise retain only what is necessary for security, fraud prevention, accounting, legal obligations or claims.
Deleting a Reader or other Speechify account does not delete a Maui Account. Delete the Maui Account separately unless Speechify confirms that a combined process is available.
15 International data transfers
Speechify is established in the United States. Maui’s principal databases, file storage, cache and application logs are currently hosted in the United States, primarily in Virginia. Other processing may occur in the United States or any country in which Speechify or a service provider operates. Some providers use global or unpinned processing locations, and Maui does not currently offer a user-selectable data-residency region.
If Personal Data is transferred from the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Brazil, Canada or another jurisdiction that restricts international transfers, we use a lawful transfer mechanism where required, such as an adequacy decision, approved standard contractual clauses, contractual safeguards or a permitted derogation. We also assess and apply supplementary safeguards where required. You may contact legal@speechify.com for information about the mechanism applicable to your data, subject to confidentiality restrictions.
Data processed in another country may be subject to that country’s laws and lawful access requests. We require service providers to protect Personal Data consistently with their contractual duties and applicable law, but local legal protections may differ from those in your country.
16 Security
We use administrative, technical and organizational measures designed to protect Personal Data, including encryption in transit and at rest where appropriate, access controls, authentication, logging, separation of certain credentials, and monitoring for abuse and security events. Access tokens and designated saved credentials are encrypted and access is limited according to role and operational need.
Authorized personnel and engineering tools may access production data, logs or analytics when necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot or improve Maui or respond to a request. Internal AI-assisted engineering tools may process technical records under Speechify’s control for those purposes. Access to message content is not limited to a dedicated customer-support interface.
No system is completely secure. Maui can interact with third-party websites, execute code, download files and hold authenticated browser sessions, which creates additional risk. Use the least permissions necessary, avoid placing secrets in ordinary prompts, review Connected Services, sign out of sensitive websites and contact support@usemaui.ai promptly if you suspect unauthorized access. We will notify affected people and regulators of a personal-data breach when applicable law requires it.
17 Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on where you live and subject to legal exceptions, you may have the right to:
- know whether and how we process your Personal Data and receive a copy;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete Personal Data;
- delete or anonymize Personal Data;
- restrict or object to processing;
- receive certain data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent;
- opt out of certain sale, sharing, targeted advertising, profiling or marketing;
- request human review of certain automated decisions; and
- complain to a privacy or data-protection authority and appeal our refusal of a request where applicable.
To exercise a right, contact legal@speechify.com. Describe the right and identify the Account, email address and data involved. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and authority. We will use verification information only for the request. If we deny a request, we will explain the basis and any available appeal process where required.
An authorized agent may submit a request where applicable law permits. We may require proof of the agent’s authority and may verify your identity directly. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
You can also use available product controls to stop a task, disconnect a Connected Service, manage device notifications, cancel a subscription or change a cookie choice. These controls address different activities and do not substitute for an Account-deletion or privacy request.
18 European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland
If European Economic Area, United Kingdom or Swiss data-protection law applies, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, the right to withdraw consent, and the right not to be subject to a qualifying solely automated decision without appropriate safeguards. You may object at any time to direct marketing and to processing based on legitimate interests; we will stop unless we demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds or need the data for legal claims.
You may complain to the data-protection authority where you live, work or believe an infringement occurred. We encourage you to contact legal@speechify.com first so we can try to resolve the issue. The legal bases for processing are described in Section 7 and international transfers in Section 15.
19 California Notice at Collection and United States state rights
Categories collected and purposes
During the preceding 12 months, and as described in Sections 4 through 6, Maui may have collected the following categories of Personal Data:

Sale, sharing and sensitive personal information
In the 12 months before the “Last updated” date of this Policy, Speechify has not sold or shared Maui Personal Data, as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act. Speechify uses and discloses sensitive personal information only for purposes that California law permits without a right to limit, including to provide the services you request, to secure Maui, and to maintain and improve it, so no separate limitation method is offered. If these practices change, we will provide the legally required notice and opt-out or limitation method before beginning the new practice.
We do not offer a financial incentive or price or service difference in exchange for Personal Data. Plans, Credits and waitlist access are not conditioned on permitting sale or sharing.
California and other state rights
Residents of California and certain other states of the United States may request access to, correction of, deletion of or portability of Personal Data and information about categories of collection, sources, purposes and disclosures. Depending on the state, you may also opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising or qualifying profiling and appeal a denied request. Because Maui does not currently sell or share Personal Data for targeted advertising, there is no separate sale-or-sharing opt-out needed for the current practice.
Submit a request or appeal to legal@speechify.com. You may use an authorized agent as described in Section 17. California residents may request information about our compliance with California privacy law using the same address.
20 Canada
If Canadian privacy law applies, Speechify is accountable for Personal Data under its control, including information processed by providers outside Canada. We identify the purposes of collection, seek meaningful consent where required, limit collection, use and disclosure to appropriate purposes, apply safeguards, retain data only as necessary, and provide access and correction rights subject to legal exceptions.
You may withdraw consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawal may prevent Maui or a Connected Service from functioning. Personal Data may be processed in the United States and other countries and may be available to courts, law enforcement or national-security authorities under local law. Contact legal@speechify.com to request access or correction, challenge our compliance or ask about provider processing. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the competent provincial privacy commissioner.
21 Brazil
If Brazil’s Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais applies, Speechify processes Personal Data on the legal bases described in Section 7. Subject to applicable conditions and exceptions, you may request confirmation of processing, access, correction, anonymization, blocking or deletion of unnecessary or unlawfully processed data, portability, information about recipients, information about the consequences of withholding consent, withdrawal of consent, review of qualifying automated decisions and information about the criteria used, and other rights provided by law.
You may submit a request to legal@speechify.com and may complain to the Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados. International transfers are described in Section 15 and will use a mechanism permitted by Brazilian law, which may include an adequacy decision, approved contractual clauses or another authorized mechanism.
22 Children
Maui is intended only for people who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from a person under 18 through Maui. If you believe a minor has created an Account or provided Personal Data, contact legal@speechify.com. We will investigate and delete or restrict the information where required. This section does not prevent an adult user from processing information about a minor where the user has a lawful basis and Maui’s use is otherwise permitted.
23 Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as Maui, our providers or the law changes. The “Last updated” date shows the latest revision. If a change materially affects how we use Personal Data, we will provide additional notice and obtain consent where required by law. An updated Policy applies from its stated effective date and does not retroactively authorize materially different processing where additional notice or consent is required.
